A Space for God: Sunday School Lesson for Children

Do you have a special place where you keep your favorite toys? Or a cozy corner where you read books? Just like we make space in our rooms for things we love, God wants us to make space for Him in our hearts and lives! Today, we’ll discover how to create “A Space for God” every single day.

Why Do We Need Space for God?

Imagine your heart is like a busy house. Sometimes it’s full of schoolwork, games, friends, and noises. God whispers, “Can I come in?” He doesn’t push or shout. He waits politely for us to invite Him. When we make space for God, wonderful things happen:

  • We feel His peace when we’re scared
  • We know we’re loved no matter what
  • We get better at making kind choices
  • We remember we’re never alone

Bible Story: Mary and Martha’s Choice

Let’s read about two sisters in Luke 10:38-42. Jesus visited their home. Martha rushed around cleaning, cooking, and worrying. But Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to His words. Martha complained, “Lord, make Mary help me!”

Jesus gently said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better.”

Mary made space for Jesus first. She knew listening to Him was the most important “job” of all!

How Can YOU Make Space for God?

You don’t need a fancy room or special chair! Here are simple ways:

1. Quiet Time Corner

Find a spot (even a cushion in your room!). Spend 5 minutes:

  • Talking to God about your day
  • Reading one Bible verse (try Psalm 46:10!)
  • Listening in silence – God speaks in gentle thoughts!

2. Prayer Pocket

Make a “God’s Mailbox” from an envelope. Decorate it! Write notes to God like:

  • “Thank You for my puppy!”
  • “Help me be brave for my test.”
  • “I’m sorry I yelled at my brother.”

Read them at bedtime. He always answers!

3. Worship Walks

As you walk to school or play outside:

  • Notice God’s art (clouds, flowers, bugs!)
  • Whisper, “Thank You, God, for this!”
  • Sing a praise song softly (even made-up ones!).

Sunday School Fun: Create Your “God Space” Box!

Let’s build a special box to remind us to make space for God every day!

You’ll Need:

  • An empty shoebox
  • Markers, stickers, glitter
  • Small items: a cross, a heart, a stone

What to Do:

  1. Decorate your box! Write “My Space for God” on top.
  2. Put items inside that remind you of Him:
    • The heart: “God loves me forever!”
    • The cross: “Jesus is my friend.”
    • The stone: “God is my strong rock.”
  3. Add blank papers to write prayers or thanks.
  4. Open your box every morning – invite God into your day!

God’s Promise About Your Space

God doesn’t just visit – He moves in! Revelation 3:20 says:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.”

When you make space for God, He fills it with love, joy, and peace. You become His special home!

Let’s Pray Together

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me! Help me make space for You every day. I open the door of my heart – come in and stay with me forever! Amen.

Discussion Questions for Your Class

  1. Where’s your favorite quiet spot to talk to God?
  2. What’s one thing that fills your “heart house” and makes it noisy?
  3. How did Mary show Jesus she was making space for Him?
  4. What will you put in YOUR “God Space” box?

Remember: You Are God’s Special Home!

Making space for God isn’t about having a perfect room or being quiet all day. It’s about saying, “God, You’re important to me! I want You in my life!” Start small – 5 minutes, one prayer, a single “thank You” under your breath. Like a seed growing in good soil, your space for God will blossom into something beautiful. You are His temple (1 Corinthians 3:16), and He loves living in YOU!
